English Literature

John is the English coordinator, with twenty-five years’ teaching experience. He has an English honours degree, and a PGCE in English from the University of Portsmouth. He taught English language and literature in English state secondary schools for thirteen years, during which time he was English department head, examinations officer, and mentor to undergraduate trainee teachers affiliated with the University of Chichester.

He moved to Italy in 2011, where he taught English at an international school in Grottaferrata for three years, before working at an international middle school in Giustiniana from 2014 – 2022, There he worked as the English department coordinator, collaborating with his Italian counterpart to establish its bilingual dual curriculum. He joined the Northlands team in 2022.

Prior to moving to Italy, he acquired a CELTA certificate and has since taught Cambridge English at all levels from A2 to C2. He continues to mentor trainee teachers in Italy, including Erasmus and TES institute trainees. 

His favourite writers are Dickens, Shakespeare, and the students in his English classes.
